Dull, radiating lower back pain, and stiff back, why?I seem to think that the weather, cool fronts stalled just north of us, or coming in our direction aggravate the problem. Of course my age, 58, doesn't help either. I'm still very active physically, so I would like a strong back, lol. I appreciate any useful advice, but please keep keep your sarcastic remarks to yourself! This is a serious matter.

Hi, It could be anything, nerve problem, muscle problem or a number of other things...It is impossible to answer your question without knowing what the actual problem is. Go to your Doctor and have him/her send you for a CT or MRI scan.
The wrong type of treatment or exercises can do more damage than good and you need to have your back properly diagnosed prior to ANY treatment.
Again you do need to have a CT / MRI scan or such done before allowing ANYONE to touch your back.
Get a professional opinion from the radiologist doing the scan in his report to your doctor and then go from there.

I certainly found it helpful and you can stay anonymous

the best thing i can suggest to you, would be to try and sit bolt up right.if you think it is down to the weather then i would say go and see gp and have blood test done and check it for arthritis . that will tell you. and what sort. try putting a pillow behind you, and see if that helps you, i use a cushioned summer chair seat to sit on.
and it helps.

Sitting more than 30 minutes without moving puts a lot of pressure on the back & tailbone. So even a walk around the chair will help. Drink 6 glasses of plain water daily.
Turn over your favorite shoes & look at the soles for uneven wear. That's a clue to back troubles. Wear shoes with good soles. Call massage therapists & ask who does Bowen therapy. Not like massage, not chiropractic; you'll feel better with one visit!

If it's only in the morning and the pain eases after you get up and then is gone a few hours later, it could be fibromyalgia. If the pain is caused by activity, then I would suggest getting an exercise ball and strengthen your core muscles or an inversion table which would stretch out your back and allow you to do exercise that would strengthen your core.

It could be anything, but you can probably find out from this back expert I found. Here is the link to his free book. Plenty of great emails that go along with it too.
