medical aid/assistance for low-income citizens of california, car accident back pain?

medical aid/assistance for low-income citizens of california, car accident back pain?my boyfriend is an independent film maker whose salary depends on the jobs at the time, and sometimes it can be very slow. he has no health insurance as he cannot afford it. his back has always given him some pain.

two days ago he was in a car accident where the car he was in got rear-ended, HARD. his friend in the driver's seat doesn't have driver's insurance. yesterday, my boyfriend's back started hurting so much to where it would hurt to walk. today, he could barely get out of bed from the pain.

do you know of any assistance programs in california he can get? he doesn't seem to pass for medi-cal since he's not under 21 nor has any children.

should the driver who hit them pay for medical bills even if the car he hit was uninsured? after all, my boyfriend was the passenger, not the driver.

If the person that was driving the car was uninsured, but owns a house, you can go after their estate to compensate for your medical bills.

It takes a long time, you need to keep EVERY document that pertains to his condition and may need to end up getting an attorney.

As for the assistance, I don't know what to say.
