Slight jabbing pain in lower back area about where kidney is located for past 3 days... what could it be?I have noticed for the past few days a slight jabbing pain in my lower back area, near where I think my kidney may be located. It comes and goes, and it hurts, but not severely. I don't have symptoms for an infection and when I urinate, it is normal. What could this be? Will it go away? Does it seem severe enough for the doctor?

Could be a kidney stone or Kidney infection. Go to the Dr and he will have you pee in a cup to see if you have any blood in your pee to know if it's one of those.
I have had kidney stones since 18 years old. It hurts through and through from back to front. Not everone is the same though.

Hmm...I personally would still go and see a doctor just to be sure. Just because you've been able to urinate without pain doesn't mean its not a UTI. You also want to make sure that you don't have a kidney stone which can cause pain in the area you mentioned. Often it starts off as a nagging pain. But severity could increase in a short period of time. Chat with the consulting nurse at your doctor's and see if she feels it warrants an appointment.

Could be muscle spasms. Still could be a kidney infection. Either way, you should go see your doctor. I have had several UTI's in the past, but one time I did not have the usual UTI symptoms, and had the back pain with a fever and I ignored it, and ended up with a severe kidney infection that put me in the hospital for 3 days. Not fun. So I no longer ignored any symptoms. The next time I had that same kind of back pain, I immediately went to the dr and it was just "bladder/kidney spasms, he prescribed me some medication, and with in a couple of days they stopped.
