What causes sharp pain, left side under rib cage?I have this sharp pain, that gets worse with breathing, moving and standing. It's under my rib cage, left side more towards the back then the front. Anyone have any idea what could cause this?
It came on suddenly, and is extremely painful. It's almost unbearable. I am pretty sure it's not gas.

I'm not positive, but I do know that the lower back are your kidneys.
It could be a stone of some kind...or your apendix..it can be anything, really.
Seeing a doctor is the bestbet. Don't rely on yahooanswers. Get professional help, a.s.a.p if it doesn't stop.

It's also possible that it's is a rib out of place. I get this often. If you visit a doctor they will run a ton of expensive tests for no reason (trust me, I know... I'm a nurse). Try going to a chiropractor, they could help.

I've had this before and I honestly have no idea what could have caused it. After a while it should get better if it's the same thing I was going through. It hurts when you breathe in or talk loudly or cough, right? I hope you feel better soon.

In between the bones of your ribcage are small connector muscles called interstitial muscles. Sometimes these may become agitated due to lack of movement/exercise or become strained due to overexertion or hyper extension. It is really nothing to worry about if it happens once in a while. If it lasts for over 24 hours however, or becomes worse, consult a physician.
