Why am I getting back pain while doing small amounts of crunches? This just started recently. I used to do crunches on a daily basis for exercise, and I would do approximately 20-25.
A few weeks ago, I decided I should probably get back into it. I have a yoga ball, and I use that to do my crunches on because it's supposed to be better for you and more effective. I read that I should be doing 2 sets of 10-15, so I opt to do 2 sets of 15.
I do my first set with only small amounts of burning in my abs and in my upper/middle back. However, by the time I get to #6-8 in the 2nd set, my back gets a very sharp burning pain in that same spot and I am unable to continue.
My abs are fine, but my back is a huge problem! I'd like to know 2 things.
1. What is this pain from?
2. Is it safe for me to try to push myself through it? (I have a very high pain tolerance, but this hurts badly!!)
Thanks!

When doing sit-ups, never push through back pain. Stop immediately at even the slightest twinge in the lower back.
Exercising the abdominal muscles and back muscles should be included as part of a daily routine of good health, like brushing teeth. To gain the benefits of strong and supportive abs and back muscles, a full set of exercises should only take 10 to 20 minutes to exercise. Ball/Sit-ups—Sit on the ball with back in neutral position, feet flat on floor and arms straight overhead
Lean back, flexing at hips, and pointing toes to ground
Hold for 5 seconds
Sit up slowly, setting heels back on the ground
5-10 repetitions tes to complete
