upper back pains while breathing and moving?Hi, my fiance just complained to me about horrible pains he has been having... and he said it has actually been happening for a couple weeks now...
When he is laying down and tries to roll over, or sitting up and tries to extend his back, or even sit straight up, while he is breathing, he gets a "tight" feeling that hurts a lot... also if he just simply breathes in too deep.
He does smoke, and he told me this morning that starting now he is quitting, because the pains are getting bad...
I am just concerned that it could be something serious...
What does this sound like? He feels like it is his lungs... the pain is in his back, in between his shoulder blades.
He wants to avoid the doctor and quit smoking, and try to work out more (he hasnt been working out in years)

Is he afraid to go to the doctor? Make him go if you can...but this could be anything from a muscle strain in his back to something more serious. Guessing is just foolish...he needs professional diagnostics.

It would be a good idea to go ahead and go to the Dr...that is the best place to find out what is going on. I did something similar that hurt like the dickens and I had injured the muscle that supports my diaphraigm...it hurt to move, breathe (it hurt thru the middle--in my chest, into my back...hurt to lay down, hurt to move, turn..everything..like a sharp stab!) But..that is just ONE thing it could be. There are other things and too many people here will speculate..just go.
Tell him GO..it could be minor like a muscle or rib..it could be lungs or inflammation of the heart lining...there is so MUCH it could be from not serious at all to serious...he needs to GO

I would go see a chiropractor. There are some ads that offer the first visit free with x-rays if need be. It sounds to me like a rib is misaligned.
