I have back pain too. The claim it is arthritis. Its my tailbone that hurts.
Well, here is what I do. I take tyelnol and darvocet. That seems to help a lot.
Another thing is to lie in bed at night without any pillows. that seems to help my back a lot.
Heat works. Try Ben Gay or a similar product. Use a heating pad at night.
I've heard activon works great.
Get up and walk around every so often during exams. They will understand. That will alow the muscles to relax.
If none of this works for you, I'd see a Dr as there could be something else wrong.

Try lying face down on the floor for 2 or 3 mins every hour or so.
This allows the back muscles to relax.
Good luck with your exams.

Look for a Muscle Activation Therapist (MAT) in your area. The MAT therapist in our area takes away all my pain. They just find weak muscles, push on an opposing muscle and original muscle is back in sync. It is amazing. I always walk away pain free after 45 min. My sister struggled with back pain for over a year that was severe. After numerous doctors and trying tons of medicines/therapies/shots, etc. the MAT therapist is what healed her. Now she does Pilates and has little pain. Hope this helps!

Well, until exams are over there are several things that you can try. While at home you can try alternating ice packs and heat 15 min each on your lower back. Also lay flat on your back with pillows under knees (on the floor is best) and just relax for 30 min., no moving!! Aleve Liquid Gel capsules are great for minor back pain and the naproxin that they contain is usually what a doctor would prescribe for minor/mild back pain.
While you are at class, exams, library, etc. I would suggest that you buy something called Therma Care Heat Wrap, you can find them almost anywhere, They come in different sizes and wrap around you comfortably and provide a mild heat to relax your back muscles for extended periods. There are 2 per box and they are about $ 6. But worth it. I am a chronic back pain patient and I use them alot if I am away from home.
You could also bring a pillow with you to place between yourself and the back of your chair for a little bit of support.
After exams you should see a doc, just to be sure that your problem is just back strain from long hours. I was diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease when I was 23yrs old, so you can start having problems much younger than you would think. It's much easier if you know earlier, it will save alot of discomfort when your older.
Good Luck on Exams!!!

When lying on your back put 2 pillows under your knees. If sleeping on your side put one pillow between your knees. This takes the strain off the lower back. Had a back injury nursing in 84 and still use these 2 teckniques.
