if i take yoga will it help or hurt my lower back pain ?


if i take yoga will it help or hurt my lower back pain ?I have bad lower back pain. will yoga help or hurt? is there a certain ttpe of yoga I should take? much appreciated.

Yoga should help with your back pain. You should tell your instructor about your back problems and they will be able to have you do certain positions. Yoga is about the movements and postures keeping your muscles tone and loose. In time you should be able to feel a difference in your back.

there is no way to tell until you know exactly what is wrong with your back;; & sorry, but the instructor generally isn't a medical professional (so they don't know the dysfunctions caused by what you or they are doing), so you cannot depend on them to decipher what your back will or will not go through...& you shouldn't depend on them to be your 'doctor'...nor us;; yoga is generally good for the back, but in certain diagnoses, you do not want to excite the dysfunction..you can try yoga, but stop the minute you 'feel' anything going wrong;; what one yoga instructor may recite as a 'burn' or 'ok cuz that is what you are suppose to feel', may be interpreted as something you DO NOT do or feel when having specific back disorders...get a diagnosis first, then try PT...after PT they can refer you to the rights & wrongs of continued physical interplay...good luck...but if you're not using cold packs to your back..those are good for any condition...15-20mins...

Yoga is good for back pain because it strengthens and stretches the back muscles. Having strengthened muscles gives more support to your back and can reduce the pain. Yoga is also very meditative, reducing blood pressure and anxiety, both of which can cause pain to be worse.

It is important to make sure you do not over-exert yourself and push your body past its limit. Some poses should be modified to suit your body's ability.
