Sporadic radiating back pain?I've had this pain now for a few years, but sometimes it's not a problem. I can't pinpoint when it comes back. I wouldn't say I do that much strenuous activity - just the normal stuff. This pain is on my left side, lower back and it radiates down into my leg. It's pretty much a stabbing pain and does not go away when I lie down - actually it makes it worse. The only thing that relieves the pain is an Advil, so I generally have to take two a day - one in the morning and one at night. I thought it had gone away but now the pain is definitely back. I get scared because I think it could be my kidney, but I'm just not sure. My mom mentioned sciatica but I don't know about that either. Does anyone know what this could be? The pain doesn't increase by touching it either. I know I should go see a doctor, but I hate telling them of a pain that is only there sometimes. Any help would be appreciated since I've suffered with this for almost 5 years now.

Sounds like a pinched nerve in your back. I've had a variety of back problems. Visit a good chiropractor and read the link below about back pain. A simple urine test will let you know if it's anything going on with your kidney. Good luck!

sounds like sciatica like your mom said. i have had it and that sounds like it. also, i had pains like that before too that sent me to the ground, no lie. i went to the doctor and i just had muscle spasms in my lower back which may have been do to weak muscles. i was prescribed som pain meds and given some stretching exercises to do. here is a link that will show you some stretches. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/stretches.php?MainMuscle=Lower+Back

It doesn't matter that the pain comes and goes. It worries you, so you need to know what is causing it. We can only guess, your doctor knows you and can examine you.
