What causes throbbing pain in the back of your head?


What causes throbbing pain in the back of your head?Every once in a while i get this throbbing pain in the back of my head like someone is hitting me on the head with a hammer. It's not your typical headache, this is worse. What would this be and what causes it?

sounds like a migrain headache. lots of causes. look it up on the web . . . check with your doctor

I would suggest going to the doctor. You don't want to mess with stuff like that. But some suggestions on what it could be-- a type of migrane, or a severe headache caused by strong tension in your upper neck. Also, depending on where on the back of your head it hurts, it could be caused my an eye problem. Go to a doctor and good luck :)

If its right at the base of your head? It is probably sinus.. it is allergy season which causes your sinus to get clogged which in turn gives you the worst headache ever!!!!... Try some Allergy meds

I believe it is a migraine headache. If not you may want to get a MRI and make sure it isn't an aneurysm
