why do I have back pain after running?

why do I have back pain after running?I'm a 17 year old male and I started running again to get back in shape about a week ago. I usually only run between 1 and 2 miles every couple days. I have been noticing that after I run my back becomes a little sore and can stay in (minor) pain for a couple days after. The pain is usually in the middle to upper back and about an inch or so to the side of the spine. Is this because I'm out of shape or is there something else to it?

Back pain after running can be from a number of sources.

If there is a slight problem with your back, the repetitive stress of running can cause it to become worse and result in lingering pain.

It is also possible that there is some problem with your running mechanics. A different pair of shoes, a longer (or shorter) stride, or another small change could reduce your back pain.

If running is something you want to continue to do often, you might consult with a personal trainer who could identify any mechanical problems you are having. If the pain gets very bad, that may be a sign you have a problem in your spine.
