back pain in the morning spondylothesis fusion surgery?

back pain in the morning spondylothesis fusion surgery?I have back pain in the morning. It gets better in couple of hours after I move around. It increased a lot during stress. Doctors recommend a fusion surgery as x-ray shows grade 1 spondylothesis. I have diabetes. I would like to know if anybody has this surgery and if it worked.

I had the surgery two years ago and it helped a lot. I got to the place that I could hardly walk with out wanting to cry. I had L5 and S1 fused and I feel a lot better. I was unlucky enough not to have enough bone on one side and had to wear a brace for six months. But all in all it was not that bad. I fractured two bones in my back about six months before my surgery and they healed well before I had it.Good luck and I hope you will think this over and go for it. I'm sure you will feel better.

I had it too in the neck. C3 and C4. It helped me greatly. I t caused me to not be able to keep my balance and many other things. The disk was cutting into my spinal cord. I am due to have the lower back done. L7 and 8 and I would not hesitate to have it done. My brother had bothdone too and came out fine. Just some thereapy afterwards but no pain. It is herditary in our family.

I had Fusion surgery in December of 2007. I had it done for DDD (disc degenerative Disease). I had a collapsed disc at L5 S1. I had the right tests before hand and tried conserative treatments first (about four years worth) so I did not enter into this decision lightly. It helped a little bit with the back pain, but not enough imo that I would do this again if I had it to do over again, plus... and here is the biggie in my case. I had NO leg pain (nerve pain) prior to surgery, when I woke up after surgery I had excruating leg, nerve pain in both legs. I was told that the nerves are irriated after surgery and they would calm down. I was first told it would take 2 months, when they did not "calm down" at two months it was stretched into 4 and then 6. My left leg did get better but not my right I am left with permament nerve damage in my right leg. I have to use a wheelchair for any exteneded walking. It has changed my life tremendously.
With all that said... you need to make sure you have all the facts, understand that nerves in your legs COULD be affected and talk to your surgeon about everything that is on your mind. No one told me that the nerves in my legs could be affected, a pretty big thing to leave out in my opinon. If you do decided to go ahead with the surgery do things a head of time to make your recovery a bit easier. Get somethings to help you out like : easy meals, get a grabber so you can reach things and not have to bend, you may want a small cooler so you can put it by your bedside for the first week or so, get a big cup for your favorite drink, or water, have some extra pillows on hand, you may need a shower bench for a week or so, a walker or cane may be needed as well for a couple of weeks. Best of luck to you!

I have had mine fused from top to bottom, and it has made some difference like you it hurt when i got up in the mornings, but now it doesnt hurt when i first get up, but it makes you feel siff in the mornings, but i suppose its better than pain! but i wont lie to you, as there will still be some pain as fusing itself makes you so stiff that it can cause aching, and worse in cold weather, even in very hot weather it can ache too.
