Back Pain Info:What causes lower back pain during menstruation?

What causes lower back pain during menstruation? My back is always hurting because of my chest, but that's more throughout my back, and mainly around my neck/shoulders. During PMS my lower back, just higher than my waist, kills me. It hurts so much, and my legs get so weak I can't walk. I have to sit out from gym about 3 times each month because of it. What causes these pains? I'm wondering because.. well, I'm not really aware of the relation between the reproductive area and my back/thighs.
Thanks in advance.

The muscles that wrap around your uterus are the same muscles that wrap through your lower stomach and lower back for support. So when your uterus ties into a knot, it pulls those muscles, chain reaction.

it's also from fluid retention too. meaning the uterus is heavier while ur on ur period.

I get lower back pain also and I can definitely feel it in my legs too. Have you ever tried taking a few Aleve or Advil the days before your period starts? It works to prevent the buildup of prostaglandins which is what causes the cramps in the uterus. That is what doctors recommend for those of us with bad cramps. It's worth a try anyway.

the pain in the lower back hurts becasue that is where your ovaries are adn they expand during your period. ive heard of the thighs and legs hurting but im really not sure why

The cervix relaxes for passage of blood from the uterus; what you experience is the equivalent of "back labor" - experienced during childbirth.
