Girlfriend has bad upper stomach/back pain?

Girlfriend has bad upper stomach/back pain? For a couple of weeks now my girlfriend has been having some minor stomach pain. But recently it's gotten worse. A few nights ago, she said she felt really sick and threw up 4 times after dinner. She said she had back pain and her upper stomach really hurt (near the solar plexus) everyone suspected food poisoning, but just to be safe we went to the doctor the next day.

The doctor said she was having problems digesting her food properly because of her diet (probably unhealthy? even though we've been eating healthier these past weeks). So he said she should take some Mylanta (like peptol bismol) 30 mins before each meal for the next two weeks and to lay off on the sweets/acidic/oily foods.

My girlfriends been following her doctors orders and just when we think we're in the clear, she feels sick again with the same symptoms. Bad upper stomach/back pain.

I will take her back to the doctor again tomorrow, but would anyone happen to know what it could be??

I really dont think she's pregnant. She just had her period a couple of weeks ago and isn't really having the pregnancy symptoms.

Thank you in advance for any help everyone. I really am worried about her. :(

I'm not sure what it could be but I'd like to say that it's very sweet of you to worry about her! I'm sure she'll be fine. Just pray!

If the pain in her back is on the upper right side, and the pain in front is on the right side just under the ribcage, what your girlfriend may be having is gallbladder problems. Stones in the gallbladder can cause a great deal of pain, and the trouble usually is triggered after you eat, particularly bad if the meal was high in fat. She probably should ask the doctor to order an ultrasound exam of the gallbladder to see if that is the source of the problem. Pregnancy in this early a stage really doesn't have any symptoms, the first one is most often the missed cycle. The doctor can also eliminate that possibility with a serum pregnancy test, which will detect it earlier than a urine test. But even if she were, it would not explain the pain you describe. In the meantime, she'll have a better chance of keeping her dinner if she sticks to a no-fat diet, and eats small meals of mostly veggies, whole grain foods and no alcohol. If it is her gallbladder, that's a pretty straightforward fix. They recommend removal, which is done with a laproscopic procedure. Generally it's done first thing in the morning and you are back in your own bed at night. It solves the problem, and lets you get back to life. However, a healthy diet is still necessary.
