I went to the ER today to severe cramps and back pain. They say that I have a ovarian cyst.Is that bad?I am only 24 years old and I am scared because I am TTC and a ovarian cyst sounds very scary. The doctors at the ER were not very helpful at all they just told me to follow up with my OB/GYN tomorrow. They didn't even explain what the condition is. PLEASE HELP ME

they aren't rare and can be common, they cause severe pain and tend to come back every once in a while, but they do go away

Usually treatable with birth control pills. They do go away.

Ask a lot of questions when you're at your appointment tomorrow!
My friend had an ovarian cyst when she was 19, and had surgery to get it removed, she only has 1 ovary now. I asked her if she was worried about having kids in the future, and she said "well you only need 1 ovary to get pregnant anyways" which is true. I'm not very informed on this though, make sure to ask a lot of questions at the OBGYN

Nope. All women get cysts just before releasing an egg. They're not always painful and not that often dangerous. Only cysts bigger than 5cm in diameter require treatment. If they sent you home to be followed up tomorrow, have a warm bath and snuggle up. You didn't require emergency treatment and you'll find out the rest tomorrow. Try to relax. Most cysts rectify themselves after a few days.

Hi! Ovarian cysts are serious and need to be dealt with, but shouldn't cause you any problems in the long term. My mother had one and had an ovary removed at 19 as a result. She has had no complications since and is now the proud mother of 3. Don't stress out, just follow up with the doctor and they will tell you if you need surgery. Good luck :)
