late pregnancy - achy back that comes and goes.. could it be back labor pains?

late pregnancy - achy back that comes and goes.. could it be back labor pains?I am 36 1/2 weeks along and my back has had some weird achy pains that started yesterday.. it comes and goes irregularly, like braxton hicks, but it's in my lower to mid back.. it is not happening at the same time as braxton hicks either.. and it happens when I am laying down too. is it just pressure? why does it come and go, unlike normal back pain? it's got an achy feel to it, also, like a menstral cramp, but in the back.. weird? have any of you experienced this?
it's hard to say if it is getting stronger.. yes? and no? sometimes it's stronger than other times and the pain radiates into my sides.. it's really hard to tell right now, but I do know that it's feeling REALLY weird.. I've never felt this kind of feeling before..
but I guess that's not unusual for pregnancy pains..lol

do you know which way your baby is laying? If they are laying with their spine adjacent to yours it could be what is making it sore and aching. Also carrying around that basketballbelly and extra weight can take its toll by 36 weeks!
However some women get back ache labour and if these pains get stronger, more regular and radiate towards the pelvis then I would call your health care provider and let them know in case you need to be brought it for monitoring.

Trying resting up for a while, maintain a good posture and do some gentle stretching exercises (prop your elbows on the kitchen bench and sway your hips from side to side also helps to relieve back ache and stretch your muscles out.)

Best of luck

It's been quite a while but that's how my entire labor went with my first child. In fact you can time the contractions and treat them just like the more common frontal contractions. Since they are a little early you might want to check with your doctor. Otherwise you would still have time while they are still irregular and your water hasn't broken.

yes that sounds like what i was having.... it might be labor pains, is it getting stronger

It could be the start of pre-labor pains, especially if you notice a discharge. But then again it might just be normal late term pregnancy aches. You will know when these turn into actual labor pain, there is no second guessing actual labor pains. Hang in there and all the best.
