Why do I have such bad lower back pain when I am on my period? When I am about to start my period and the first couple of days of my period of have really bad back pain. Does anyone know why and what helps?

That's just good old hormones! A heating pad or hot water bottle works great but be prepared to go to sleep while its on your back because it's very relaxing.

I had the same problem, the pain in my back and it radiates down my legs, I went to the doctors and I had multiple ovarian cyts. You should go see your GYN and get an ultrasound!

I don't know the technical reasons, but it's all hormone and sloughing off the uterine lining related.
I get back aches, abdominal aches, and leg aches. Sometimes all at once.
Ibuprofen usually helps. Also, disposable heating pads that you can wear directly on your skin are wonderful devices if you're going to be out and about during the day.
